Technical Audits

A technical audit gives you a clear picture of how your website is really performing, and a prioritised plan to make it faster, more accessible, easier to find and kinder to the planet.

Websites tend to pick up problems over time: a new plugin here, a tracking script there, a quick fix that never got revisited. Individually they're small, but together they can make a site slow, hard to use and hard to find. I review your website from top to bottom and explain what I find in plain English, with practical recommendations your team (or I) can act on.

What's included

Performance

I measure how your site performs for real users, looking at Core Web Vitals, page weight, images, fonts, JavaScript and third-party scripts. Then I find the changes that will make the biggest difference to load times. After rebuilding Sentient Media's site, Lighthouse scores improved dramatically, and both page weight and database size dropped.

Accessibility

I test your site against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) using automated tools, keyboard-only navigation and screen readers. I look at everything from colour contrast and heading structure to forms, focus states and interactive components. For Spin, I worked with an external auditing team to review every page, then put the fixes in place.

Technical SEO

I check that search engines can crawl and understand your site properly, covering page titles and descriptions, headings, canonical URLs, sitemaps, robots rules, structured data, redirects, broken links and mobile friendliness. Most technical SEO issues are quick to fix, but they can make a big difference to how your site ranks.

Environmental impact

Every byte your website sends uses energy. I estimate your site's carbon footprint and look for ways to reduce it, like smaller pages, fewer requests, efficient hosting and less unnecessary JavaScript. These changes are usually good for performance too.

Code and architecture

For sites built on WordPress, Craft CMS, Shopify or a headless stack, I can also review the codebase, plugins and hosting setup. I flag maintenance risks, outdated dependencies and anything that might cause problems as your site grows.

What you'll get

  • A clear, jargon-free report of what I found, with screenshots and examples.
  • A prioritised list of fixes, ranked by impact and effort.
  • Before and after metrics, so you can see the difference.
  • A walkthrough call to go through the findings with your team.
  • The option for me to implement the fixes, or support your developers while they do.
