I'm a freelance front-end & web developer based in Bristol, UK, working with clients across the UK and around the world. Here's a brief overview of what I do, how I go about it, and the type of organisations I work with.
How I can help
- WordPress development: custom themes, Gutenberg and ACF blocks, and headless WordPress.
- Craft CMS development: bespoke Craft builds, both traditional and headless.
- Shopify development: custom themes, theme rebuilds and customer portals.
- Headless and Jamstack development: fast, pre-rendered front ends with Astro, Next.js and Eleventy.
- Technical audits: performance, accessibility, SEO and environmental impact reviews, with clear fixes.
What I do
My work covers all kinds of digital products and services, and I'm often involved at several stages of a project.
UX and strategy
I love getting involved in the nitty-gritty of user research, workshops and UX design. I work closely with UI designers and brand managers to turn static assets and ideas into interactive, accessible digital products.
Front-end development
Whether it's planning the technical architecture of a small website, or parachuting in to add new features to a legacy codebase, I've worked on all sorts of projects. I specialise in front-end development, across a wide range of tech stacks and CMSs.
I try to focus on the accessibility, performance and environmental impact of all my work.
Consultancy
Sometimes clients just need some help or guidance with their digital presence. Whether it's a technical audit with clear recommendations, advice on technical architecture, or a full website review, I love getting stuck in, investigating the nuts and bolts and working out how we can improve things.
How I work
Whether your team is big, small or non-existent, I'm happy working with whoever is on board. I think collaboration is the key to successful projects, whether that's with other developers, designers, CEOs or any other project stakeholders.
Once we're up and running, I like to choose the best tool for the job, and one that the rest of the team is comfortable with. But generally speaking, I find I'm often:
- Wireframing and prototyping in Figma.
- Building proofs of concept with HTML, CSS and JavaScript, or in Webflow.
- Creating Jamstack websites from scratch, using tools like Astro, Eleventy and Sanity, or headless WordPress and Craft CMS.
- Working with WordPress or Craft CMS on more traditional server-rendered builds.
- Building modern single-page apps with Vue.
- Crafting design systems in Storybook.
Who I like to work with
My clients range from small one-person start-ups to international corporations, and everything in between. I like to work with clients who want to make the world a better place, however they can. This includes charities and NGOs, political activists, environmentally friendly retailers, alternative transport and energy providers, arts organisations, science and education, and public sector services.
