Shopify Development
I'm a freelance Shopify developer based in Bristol, UK. I build custom Shopify themes and ecommerce front ends that are fast, accessible and easy for your team to manage.
Shopify is a brilliant platform for selling online, but many stores end up on a heavily customised off-the-shelf theme, weighed down by apps and scripts. A custom theme built around your products and customers can make your store faster, easier to use and easier to grow.
What I can help with
Custom Shopify themes
Bespoke themes built in Liquid from the ground up, using Shopify's sections and blocks so your team can build and rearrange pages without a developer. For Bluum, I built a fully custom theme that shows off their green-roofed garden storage, with interactive product galleries and options built with Alpine.js.
Theme rebuilds
Outgrown your current theme? I can rebuild it around how your business actually works. For Bower Collective, I worked with their CTO to replace a customised off-the-shelf theme with a brand new build, improving both performance and accessibility scores.
Custom customer experiences
Subscriptions, customer accounts and order management often need more than a theme can offer. I built a library of Vue 3 components, documented in Storybook, to power Bower Collective's fully custom customer portal, making subscription and order management much smoother for their customers.
App integrations
Reviews, subscriptions, search and marketing tools all need to fit into your store without slowing it down. I integrate third-party apps carefully, so they look like part of your brand and don't drag down page speed.
Performance and accessibility
A faster store sells more, and an accessible store sells to everyone. I can audit an existing Shopify store and fix the issues, from bloated apps and unoptimised images to keyboard traps and missing labels. See my technical audits for more.
How I work
Every project is different, but my Shopify builds usually include:
- A custom theme built with sections and blocks, designed with your team.
- Accessibility built in from the start, not bolted on at the end.
- Performance budgets, optimised images and minimal JavaScript.
- Careful, considered app integrations.
- Version-controlled theme code with a proper development and preview workflow.
- Handover documentation and training, so your team is confident managing the store.
