A new WordPress website for Durstons, a UK maker of peat-free compost, bark and other growing media.
Durstons has been making compost and garden products for UK garden centres and retailers for decades. With their range of peat-free composts, barks and soil conditioners expanding, they needed a website that helps gardeners find the right product and shows off the brand's growing commitment to peat-free gardening.
Working closely with the Digital and Design Directors at FutureKings, I built a custom WordPress theme around a library of reusable blocks, so the Durstons team can put together product pages, guides and landing pages themselves. Products are organised into clear categories and use cases, so it's easy to answer questions like "which compost for seeds?" without wading through technical spec sheets.
Post-launch, we added many new features, including a stock list map that allows users to locate Durstons products in their local store. We expanded the resources available to sales partners behind a password-protected area of the site.
As with all my builds, I focused on performance and accessibility from the start. That means responsive, optimised imagery, semantic markup and keyboard-friendly navigation, so the site works well for everyone, whether they're in the garden on a phone or in a garden centre office.
